GWSkyNet-Multi

GWSkyNet-Multi is a multi-class neural network model developed for the classification of candidate gravitational-wave events detected by the LIGO and Virgo observatories.

The model uses limited information released in the low-latency public alerts to produce prediction probabilities indicating whether an event is a merger of two black holes (BBH), a merger of a neutron star and a black hole (NSBH), a merger of two neutron stars (BNS), or a non-astrophysical detector noise transient known as a glitch. This classification facilitates time-sensitive decisions about whether to perform electromagnetic follow-up of candidate events during LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) observing runs.

Details of the latest GWSkyNet-Multi II model can be found in Raza et al. (2025). The model, associated scripts, and instructions on how to use them can be found in the repository here. Details of earlier versions of the model and its inner workings are described in Abbott et al. (2022) and Raza et al. (2024).

O4 Predictions

The model predictions for all significant multi-detector CBC candidate events since the start of the fourth observing run (O4) can be found in the table below. For each candidate event the GWSkyNet-Multi II predicted probability for each class (and the associated uncertainty) is provided, along with a classification label based on the highest probability, and the inputs to the model determined from the BAYESTAR localization.
